History
Originally formed in 1942 as the 116th Cavalry Division with 17th Cavalry Corps, was later renamed 12th Guards Cavalry Division.
Fought at Korsun and Targul Frumos. With the 5th Guards Cavalry Corps of the 3rd Ukrainian Front.
