History
The 83rd Naval Infantry Brigade was formed in 1942 at Novorossiysk, which is a port city on the Black Sea. In 1943 the brigade took part in two amphibious operations in an attempt to seize Novorossiysk from German hands. The first operation was unsuccessful but in their second attempt they managed to capture the city. The 83rd Naval Infantry Brigade then became part of the 18th Landing Army which took part in an amphibious landing on the Kerch Peninsula of the Crimea where they managed to capture the peninsula. In 1944 the brigade became part of the Separate Coastal Army and participated in heavy fighting in Crimea, before being transferred to the 3rd Ukrainian Front where they participated in the offensives into Romania and Hungary. Their last amphibious landing was done in 1945 where they made an assault across the Danube River in Budapest and helped clear the city of Axis resistance. When the war ended the brigade was attached to the 5th Guards Tank Army in the Czechoslovakian capital of Prague.
